Can I get my vaccinations with my regular doctor? Many regular doctors don't do travel health assessments & vaccinations. Travel Health is unique and there are very specific vaccinations recomended by country. Our health nurses are certified in travel health and stay on top of the changing needs. Can you tell me over the phone which vaccinations I need? Each person's pre-travel health needs are different. You need a pre-travel health consult so the nurse can assess your specific situation. Your vaccination history and past medical history need to be assessed and chronic illness can change the recomendation. Why is there a charge for vaccinations?Travel health vaccines cost money because travel health is not considered a threat to the general public and is therefore not covered by Manitoba Health. Are your nurses certified in travel health?Yes, all of our travel health nurses are certified in travel health. Our nurses attended the Travel Health Conference by the International Society of Travel Medincine and passed their examination to become certified. When should I get my travel health assessment?Recomended, book your pretravel consult 6 weeks before you travel, but it is never to late to come in! Is it too late? I'm leaving in 1 week. No, it is never too late. While it is recomended to book your pre-travel consult 6 weeks before you travel, we will make every effort to get you in before you leave for your trip. I am only going to mexico, do I still need vaccinations?Yes, you need to think about travel health for destinations like Mexico, Dominican or Cuba. Tap Water & Insects may transmit disease in any country, even the popular sun destinations. How often do you have to have the shots done? Many vaccines are good for life, some require repeated doses. Your travel health nurse will be able to go over the options with you. Example: Hepatitis A requires 2 doses, first dose then follow up 6-12 months later to get the 2nd dose. |
